St. Martin Community Center receives donation from Manufacturers Council
MARION, IN. — St. Martin Community Center located in Marion is passionate about caring for the Grant County community. Since 1967, St. Martin Community Center’s staff and volunteers have served meals to those in need. Director, Teresa Campbell, explained COVID required the center to close their thrift shop for three months during the height of the crisis, but the need for meals was tremendous. St. Martin Community Center continued throughout the pandemic to serve meals three times a day, seven days a week. Without the generosity of the community, this effort could not have been successful. Unemployment and families with children without food security grew through this trying time. These needs were met by St. Martin’s preparing boxed meal service that provided a safe and efficient way to meet the growing hunger needs of the community.
In January 2021, a local manufacturer decided to start a donation challenge among the facilities in the county. The Growth Council was honored to be a partner in soliciting and collecting the financial donations on behalf of the manufacturers. As a result, on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, the Manufacturers Council in partnership with the Growth Council donated $20,500 to St. Martin Community Center. Thank you to the local manufacturers who participated in the challenge. Teresa was grateful for the generous gift that will make a difference within the organization and within the Grant County community.
