MARION, INDIANA, May 8th 2019—Victoria Herring, Director of Business Development and Operations for the Grant County Economic Growth Council, received a National Scholarship to participate in 45 credits of intensive advanced education for economic development professionals. The 45 credits are part of University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute’s 117-hour Economic Development Professional certification program.
OU EDI began in 1962 and is celebrating its 57th year of service to the economic development community. Fully accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the program has trained over 5,500 graduates and remains the world’s leading economic development teacher.
Dean of OU EDI, Mary Ann Moon, said, “OU EDI is the premier organization dedicated to training economic development professionals.” OU EDI classes focus on three major core areas including: Business Retention and Expansion, Real Estate, and Credit Analysis, as well as areas of concentration in Marketing, Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, and Managing Economic Development Organizations.
Herring competed nation-wide for the Ruffin Scholarship and was one of the two national recipients. The other winner, Zachary Morris, is the Executive Director of Van Buren County Michigan Economic Development in Van Buren County, Michigan.
Herring is approaching her second year as an Economic Development professional. This past week, Herring completed Credit Analysis and Real Estate, achieving 40 more credits towards the full certification program. Herring plans to continue taking OU EDI classes to advance her economic development education and contribute to growing the economy of Grant County.
Herring says, “Being awarded this scholarship means the opportunity to learn more about the evolving field of economic development. With the budget cuts our organization has experienced, this means so much to our community. I am so excited to bring this knowledge back to Grant County, so we can all work together to make it the best place to live, work, and play.”
