Grant County draws a highly talented workforce of over 250,000. With a spotlight on manufacturing in the Midwest, the Grant County Economic Growth Council recognizes the importance of highlighting those with special training in this area. To address the emphasis local manufacturers have placed on hiring quality, well-rounded individuals, the Growth Council entered partnerships with Ivy Tech of Marion and WorkOne.
Grant’s Got Talent is an initiative derived from a group of regional manufacturers and community leaders who came together to brainstorm and discover the best approach to addressing the skills gap for manufacturers in East-Central Indiana. Several group discussions have led to the decision to replicate a model called “Advancing Manufacturing” that has been greatly successful in the Lafayette, Indiana region. Grant’s Got Talent is designed to increase the employability of our residents and provide our local manufacturing industry with an employment pool of candidates that will help to increase profitability and decrease turnover.
Qualified candidates have been WorkKeys tested, drug tested and interviewed by WorkOne; trained by Ivy Tech Corporate College to receive a nationally recognized Certified Production Technician (CPT) certification; then upon completion will be introduced to partner employers in the manufacturing sector that see great value in the CPT credential and will move those candidates to the top of the hiring pool.
